i think it is over rated.. i don't totally hate it because it has a historic value and a transition in the way paintings were done.. but i don't see it as amazing or good work.. davinci had much better stuff than this ugly portrait.. and i really don't know about this whole argument about the obscure impression and indescribable sad smile.. to me she is just an ugly fat eye-browless half a man woman.. and probably the smile is nothing more than how she looked.. and the background is the ugliest scenery i have ever seen.. i am sure davinci when he painted this he really was not in the mood.. may be i sound a little ignorant but i think this painting is over celebrated and given too much value..
if it was up to me.. i would put John Singer Sargent's work instead of that painting.. even though he is not that old but he deserves the fame..
